River fishing on Costa Rica’s Río Niño

FISH THE RIVER. RESET AT THE LODGE.

Technical river fishing by day. A/C, hot showers, and good food at night.

What This Trip Actually Feels Like

It’s not a rushed “do-everything” tour. This is a focused river experience with a lodge base that keeps the day simple: fish hard, eat well, sleep cold, and wake up ready to do it again.

Drift boat on the Río Niño

The vibe, in plain English

  • Real river fishing Technical water that rewards good casts, good decisions, and a bit of patience.
  • Day structure that makes sense Drift boat + strategic stops, plus wading when the river says “now’s the time.”
  • A lodge base that resets you Private rooms with A/C, hot showers, and proper meals — you’re not “roughing it” after a long day.
  • More than fishing, without the chaos Wildlife, jungle edges, quiet evenings — the kind of calm that makes the trip feel longer than it was.

Gilberto — Guide

Guide

Gilberto

Gilberto has spent his whole life on the river. He reads water like a second language and keeps the day focused and safe. He’s also worked with the Costa Rican Red Cross for 15 years as a lifeguard.

Dale — Lodge owner

Lodge Owner

Dale

Dale has fished the Río Niño for 12 years and built the lodge side around what anglers actually need after a full day on the water.

Tip from Dale: Watch your back cast — there’s lots of trees — and aggressively slap the fly down on the water for best results.

Jeremy — Booking and marketing

Jeremy

I’ve been in Costa Rica for two seasons (one full year). I handle the website, booking coordination, and marketing. I’ve fished the Río Niño one time — so if you want the real river intel, that’s Gilberto.

What You’ll Fish Here

The Río Niño is technical river fishing. Species and conditions shift with the season and water level. For “what’s on” during your dates, the best move is to message Dale or Gilberto.

Other species in the region (seasonal / nearby systems): Snook, tarpon, majarra, moga, and tepemechin. Some of these aren’t in the Río Niño itself — for best expectations during your dates, ask Dale or Gilberto.
